Termonfeckin Celtic U12 4-2 Kinnegad Juniors (SFAI National Trophy 2nd Round).
TCFC’s U12s earned themselves a place in the 3rd round of the SFAI National Trophy this afternoon with a well earned and hard fought win over NDSL side Kinnegad. While the game finished with a two goal margin this was in no way reflective of the game itself. The visitors started the cup tie on the front foot and took the lead with only a couple of minutes on the clock. They doubled their lead through an unfortunate deflection after 10 minutes and it was clear this was going to be a tough afternoon.
The remainder of the second half was tense and tight and Adam McMorrow in the Termonfeckin goal needed to be on top form to ensure TCFC didn’t concede a third. As the half time whistle was approaching Ocsar Looney was fouled 25 yards out from the Kinnegad goal - Captain Conor Balfe stepped up and put the free kick in to the top corner. 1-2 at half time.
The second half started as the first finished and Termonfeckin were in the ascendency. Luke Mara gaining a foothold in midfield allowing the home side to take advantage of superiority on the wings. Adomas was a constant threat while Alfie and Caiden marshalled the back line.
With 10 mins gone in the second half TCFC had another free kick at the edge of the box. Conor Balfe again took control and rifled a shot in to the top corner. 2-2.
The game opened up and both sides struggled to create clear opportunities. Extra time was becoming a real possibility and with 5 minutes left on the clock the game sparked yet again. The impressive Kinnegad No. 6 was released through the middle and looked certain to score the winner but Man of the Match Adam McMorrow produced a stunning save down to his right to keep the score at 2-2.
Almost immediately TCFC went 3-2 up - Rory Mulholland got on the end of a perfect through ball from Conor Balfe and produced a delightful first time finish over the on rushing goalkeeper. There was just enough time for Adomas to get a fourth goal at the final whistle to make sure of the result.
A highly entertaining game all round against a very good Kinnegad side.
Best on the day for TCFC were Alfie, Conor, Luke and man of the match Adam McMorrow.
